Like us, you must be hearing the tale of loss and destruction coming from
Haiti and wondering what you can do to help. Here at the LAWG, we will
be working to encourage a generous response from the U.S. government to
this devastating earthquake, including for long-term reconstruction.
But right now, the most important action we can all take is to contribute to one of the many caring organizations providing relief. Here are some of our partners who participate in the LAWG coalition who are providing relief, along with their websites. Please donate to them or to any other effective organization of your choice supporting relief efforts in Haiti. American Jewish World Service www.ajws.org Catholic Relief Services www.crs.org Church World Service www.churchworldservice.org/haiti Episcopal Relief and Development Agency http://www.er-d.org/HaitiEarthquakeResponse Evangelical Lutheran Church in America/Action by Churches Together www.elca.org/disaster Jesuit Refugee Service USA www.jrsusa.org Lutheran World Relief www.lwr.org Mennonite Central Committee www.mcc.org Oxfam America www.oxfamamerica.org Presbyterian Disaster Assistance http://www.pcusa.org/pda/ Quixote Center www.quixote.org Solidarity Center http://www.solidaritycenter.org/ United Methodist Church www.umc.org Unitarian Universalist Service Committee/UUA www.uusc.org United Church of Christ www.ucc.org As our friends at Lutheran World Relief write, “Throughout the night and into the morning powerful aftershocks, some as strong as 5.9 magnitude, continued. The initial quake toppled the presidential palace and destroyed the shanty homes where most Haitians live. Their homes destroyed, people are in the streets with nowhere to go.” We list our regular coalition partners above, but many other great organizations like Partners in Health (www.pih.org) and Doctors without Borders (www.doctorswithoutborders.org) are providing critical assistance. Choose the group that suits you best—but do give! We all need to do what we can to lend a hand. |
