Our blog is meant to be both a dynamic community and a reliable, trusted voice in the many debates around U.S. policy in the Americas. Reliable. Trusted. Dynamic. Community. These ideals mean something to us. That's why we encourage you to leave us comments, or offer critiques, that advance the debate around the ideas and issues we cover on our blog. We only ask that you respect the following basic guidelines:
- What's Appropriate, What's Not: Constructive (including, of course, dissenting), on-topic comments are most welcome; destructive, off-topic comments are not. Verbal abuse, or comments that we deem to offensive or hateful in any way, will not be tolerated. Same goes for harsh language or ad hominem attacks directed at blog authors or other commenters.
- Links: You are more than welcome to link to relevant information from reputable online sources (relevant and reputable being the key words here). We do, however, ask that you include a short description of what you're linking to and that the material respects our "What's Appropriate, What's Not" policy described above. Also, spammers, please take your spam elsewhere (thank you).
- Length: Comments shouldn't exceed 300 words. 300 words might seem a bit arbitrary (it's about half a page, single-spaced, 12 point font), but at least in our experience, this helps ensure comments stay on-topic and don't meander too much. That way, we all have more time to read good blogs and advocate for just policies!
- To Publish, Or Not to Publish: We pre-screen all blog comments and reserve the right to refrain from publishing comments that violate any of the guidelines described above. However, just because we publish a comment doesn't mean we're endorsing it.
