Church Letter

Refugee Assistance
An X indicates representative voted yes to an amendment to the Foreign Aid Appropriations bill on June 9, 2006 to transfer $30 million from Colombian military aid through the Andean Counterdrug Initiative to the Emergency Refugee and Migration Assistance Fund. Jim McGovern (D-MA) and Tom Lantos (D-CA) sent to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice requesting the U.S. State Department reduce tension in El Salvador after a march against increases in bus fares. During the march, several police officers were shot and the police and local politicians responded by arresting many local activists.
