A wonderful resource for tracking congressional legislation
is the “Thomas” website, the official congressional website
“in the spirit of Thomas Jefferson.” See:
http://thomas.loc.gov/
On this website, you can search for bills by subject,
get the complete text of legislation, and see how many cosponsors a bill
has obtained. Particularly useful is the Status of the Appropriations
Bills on the home page, which tracks the progress of the thirteen appropriations
bills each year.
The Thomas website also lists congressional committees,
provides information on House and Senate schedules, and connects you to
the websites of members of Congress. You can read complete debates on
issues and learn how members voted on particular bills and amendments
by searching the Congressional Record on the home page.
Tracking legislation however can be difficult
and while Thomas is a great record of what happened, it can’t always
predict the congressional schedule. We’ll try to keep you up to
date on our issues in our Take Action sections.
