Since May, the Cuba solidarity movement in the U.S. has been building a campaign, “From Our Hearts to Cuba, to send lifesaving heart pacemakers to desperately ill Cuban patients. We have been raising money to deliver more than 300 pacemakers to Cuban hospitals that are prevented by the U.S. economic blockade from acquiring these urgently needed devices.
We’ve already raised $150,000, while our partner, Medicuba Europa, has contributed another $75,000. So far 130 pacemakers have arrived in Cuba and are implanted in patients, and 100 more pacemakers are now on their way to Havana. The campaign is picking up momentum and support, and we’re sure to exceed our original goal of 300 devices.
With your help, our campaign is saving lives, because the U.S. blockade has created a three-year waiting list on Cuban heart patients who need pacemakers. We are also working to change this cruel situation by demanding that Washington remove Cuba from its listing as a State Sponsor of Terrorism. This spurious charge prevents Cuba from accessing the international financial system, preventing its purchase of pacemakers.

When we act to show our solidarity with Cuba, it shows our gratitude for the much greater efforts of the Cuban International Medical Brigades, and for the efforts of Cuba to use their vaccines to immunize other countries with limited resources in the Global South.
