As Protests Ignite, Make Your Call to Congress

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

This could be it.

The U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement (FTA) could come up for a vote any day now unless our legislators really see some resistance. So please participate in our National Call-in Day to Congress TODAY Monday, July 11th!

Right now, hundreds of people are gathering in front of the White House in a massive demonstration calling for fair trade, not free trade. Will you back them up today by echoing their message in a two-minute call to your members of Congress?

Just follow this simple three-step process to make your call:

Step 1—Call the Congressional Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to your member of Congress and/or one of your Senators. If you don’t know who that is, just provide your address and the operator will automatically connect you.

Step 2—Once connected, ask to speak to the aide that works on trade agreements. Keep your message simple. Just say, “My name is ____. I am a constituent calling to urge Reprentative/Senator ____ to take a stand for human and labor rights today by opposing the U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement.”

Step 3—After you’ve made the call, tell us how it went through this website.

Need some motivation? Watch these videos that the U.S. Office on Colombia has made of Colombians explaining in their own words why this trade agreement will be so devastating for their lives. Or to brush up on your talking points, check out our resource page here.

And although it’s less effective than a call, if you’d prefer to send an email to your members of congress, click here.

If you believe that human rights should NOT be sacrificed on the altar of free trade, we need your help to make sure this FTA does not pass! So please make your call and then get everyone you know involved in sending a strong message to Congress today.
