About the Initiatives and Votes
Cuba
An X indicates senator signed onto a letter circulated by Senators Max Baucus (D-MT) and Michael Enzi (R-WY) requesting the Treasury Department provide clarification into new restrictions on religious travel to Cuba.
Secure Fence Act
An X indicates that senator did NOT vote in favor of an amendment offered by Rep. Peter King (R-NY) to authorize the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to achieve ‘”operational control” over the border through the use of technology and physical barriers, including the construction of 700 miles of additional fencing along the Southwest border.
Reform
An X indicates senator voted in favor of S. 2611, a compromise immigration reform bill that also included significant enforcement measures. S. 2611 created an opportunity for many undocumented workers and their families to earn legal status and embark on a pathway to citizenship, allowed for increased family visas for family reunification and created legal channels to deal with future flow of workers. However, it also directed the DHS to construct additional border fencing totaling 370 miles, additional vehicle barriers totaling 700 miles and expand expedited removal of asylum seekers.
