In the aftermath of the narrow “no” vote against the peace accords signed by the Colombian government and the FARC guerrillas, we at LAWG are heartened by the determination of Colombian society to find a path to peace.
We applaud the the Colombian government and the FARC guerrillas for their perseverance at the peace table, and welcome their new negotiated settlement as a solid step towards ending fifty years of brutal war.
But more importantly, we congratulate the Colombian students, artists, Afro-Colombian and indigenous communities, women, unions, civil society organizations, business leaders, and, above all, victims of violence, for their creative and generous efforts to achieve an acuerdo ya!
In a recent statement, victims of the armed conflict openly backed the new accords, noting that “it gathers the observations and hopes for peace of the different sectors of Colombian society, contributes to reconciliation, and is in accordance with [Colombian] constitutional norms.”
They also invited everyone to sign and share THIS PETITION to support and guarantee the implementation of the new peace agreement.
Colombians are sick and tired of war. Stand with them to kick-start a new era of peace and justice!
