The Bajo Aguán region of Honduras needs your help. Water defenders and other environmental activists in Honduras face constant violent attacks, death threats, disappearances, and intimidation tactics by companies, some with relationships to the United States. And the number of killings keeps rising. Honduras is the country with the fourth largest number of environmentalists killed between 2012 and 2021, according to Global Witness. But today, we have a chance to defend the defenders!

WHAT IS HAPPENING?

On June 15th, Oquelí Dominguez, a Guapinol environmental defender was murdered in his home in broad daylight. A couple of months before, Ali Dominguez and Jairo Bonilla, land defenders of the Guapinol community, were murdered by hitmen. And the list goes on. A group of Guapinol defenders were unjustly imprisoned for over two years by false accusations from a mining company in Honduras. Enough is enough. From harassment to disappearances, the Guapinol protectors stand strong against corrupt companies and extractivist projects in Honduras.

These families continue to face dangerous retaliation for protecting the rightful land they call home. We know you will help us demonstrate support for the people of Honduras.
