Liam Crisan serves as the Program Assistant on issues related to Cuba, Colombia, and Central America and is LAWG’s Financial Associate. He graduated with a B.A. in International Studies and Spanish from Kenyon College. As an undergraduate, he conducted research on deliberative democracy, the global crisis of representation, and the role of the arts in political contention and democratic transitions in the Southern Cone region. This research — both on-campus and abroad in Valparaíso, Chile, where he lived and studied for five months — culminated in his Senior Honors Thesis: “CHILE DESPERTÓ: Culture, Memory, and Deliberation in the Struggles for Authentic Democracy.” Upon graduating, Liam began a career in advocacy at the Institute for Policy Studies. At IPS, he researched U.S. transit policy and South American social movements, authored op-eds for Inequality.org and Foreign Policy in Focus, and translated articles from Manuel Pérez-Rocha’s column in La Jornada for English-language syndication. Now at the Latin America Working Group, Liam works to advance a more just foreign policy — one that promotes the growth of democracy and abatement of violence in our hemisphere.
