After 16 frustrating days, the government has finally reopened its doors. What should be next on the congressional agenda? Immigration Reform!
The government may have been closed, but it certainly didn’t keep advocates from making their voices heard. During the shutdown, thousands of people mobilized in their home communities and flooded the National Mall in DC for the Camino Americano concert, rally, and march to send Congress a message – the time is now! We heard calls to action from members of Congress from both sides of the aisle on the urgent need to pass a bill to bring millions out of the shadows while also revitalizing, not militarizing, border communities. Even if you weren’t able to join this rally in DC or your home community, it’s not too late to raise your hand in support of immigration reform.
We all need to not just keep the pressure on – but turn up the heat. As part of this community, you have worked tirelessly to advocate for the humane treatment of migrants, family reunification, thriving border communities, and effective oversight of border agencies.
