We’re running out of time. Congress will begin voting TODAY on three terrible anti-immigrant and anti-refugee bills, and we need YOU to take action NOW.

The bills—Kate’s Law (H.R.3004), the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act (H.R.3003), and the Refugee Program Integrity Restoration Act (H.R.2826)—aim to expand the government’s ability to imprison migrants and asylum seekers while weakening these individuals’ legal rights; end sanctuary cities and financially punish those that don’t comply; and reduce refugee admissions while placing refugees under continual surveillance and delaying family reunions.

These bills go against our American values of compassion and welcome. They aim to further endanger and shun immigrant and refugee communities under the guise of U.S. security. We all deserve to be safe from crime in our communities, but forcing local police to act as immigration agents makes everyone less safe.

That’s why LAWG, along with over 400 organizations, sent a letter to Congress opposing the bills. But this action alone is not enough. We need YOU to join us and push back against these senseless proposals. Call Congress TODAY!>>

Unfortunately, these bills aren’t the only bad news this week. On Monday, the Supreme Court partially reinstated Trump’s anti-immigrant and anti-refugee Travel Ban. The Court’s decision is a serious step back. Rather than standing up for migrants and refugees, the ruling jeopardizes these vulnerable populations’ livelihoods and well-being.

The Court’s final decision on the Travel Ban will come sometime this fall. But we can’t wait until then to act. We need your help to defend the rights of migrants and refugees today. Please take 5 minutes to call your representative and demand they vote NO on these bills! >>

There’s a lot going wrong this week, but you can help make it right. Check out how you can take action to stand up for migrants and refugees:

Take Action

1. Call your House Representative and tell them to vote NO on Kate’s Law (H.R. 3004) and the NO Sanctuary for Criminals Act (H.R. 3003).

The deadline’s been moved up. Voting begins TODAY. Please take action now!

Suggested Script:
I am calling to ask Rep. ____ to vote against the two anti-immigrant bills currently being proposed by President Trump and House Republicans. The so-called “No Sanctuary for Criminals Act” and “Kate’s Law” undercut local law enforcement’s ability to keep our communities safe, jeopardize national security, and hurt victims. Our families deserve real solutions to our broken immigration system—that means fixing our immigration system, not playing politics and demonizing immigrants.

2. Call House Judiciary Committee Members and tell them to vote NO on the Refugee Program Integrity Restoration Act (H.R.2826).

Suggested Script:
I support refugee resettlement and urge Rep. ____ to REJECT H.R.2826, the ‘Refugee Program Integrity Restoration Act.’ This bill is being considered by the House Judiciary Committee and would drastically reduce refugee admissions, place refugees under surveillance, allow state and local governments to veto resettlement, and deny life-saving protection to refugees fleeing for their lives. H.R.2826 runs counter to the leadership of the United States and the welcome of the American people. Please vote NO on H.R. 2826.
