As U.S.-based civil society organizations, we call on the Honduran authorities to ensure that the vote count for presidential, legislative, and municipal elections is conducted in a completely transparent manner. The delays and lack of transparency that have characterized the process thus far have the potential to undermine faith in the legitimacy of the elections.
We urge the Honduran authorities to refrain from any actions that would limit the ability of the Honduran people, journalists and social communicators, social movements, and civil society organizations to freely express their opinions and exercise their right to freedom of association and peaceful protest.
We urge the U.S. government and other international donor governments, as well as the Organization of American States and other electoral observers, to insist upon full transparency in the vote count and a review of the electoral process to ensure that the elections were free and fair and represent the will of the Honduran people.

Organizaciones de sociedad civil de los Estados Unidos piden un conteo de votos transparente en Honduras

Como organizaciones de sociedad civil estadounidenses, hacemos un llamado a las autoridades hondureñas para garantizar que el conteo de votos de las elecciones presidenciales, legislativas y municipales se lleve a cabo de manera completamente transparente. Las demoras y la falta de transparencia que han caracterizado el proceso hasta el momento tienen el potencial de socavar la confianza en la legitimidad de las elecciones.
Instamos a las autoridades hondureñas a abstenerse de cualquier acción que limite la libertad de expresión y asociación, y el derecho a la protesta pacífica, del pueblo hondureño, periodistas y comunicadores sociales, movimientos sociales y organizaciones de la sociedad civil.
Exhortamos al gobierno de los Estados Unidos y otros gobiernos donantes, así como a la Organización de Estados Americanos y otros observadores electorales, a exigir la transparencia total en el conteo de votos y que se lleve a cabo una revisión del proceso electoral para garantizar que las elecciones fueron libres y justas y representan la voluntad del pueblo hondureño.
