The Asylum Cooperative Agreement (ACA) with Guatemala is the only agreement that has been implemented thus far. Once in Guatemala, asylum seekers have 72 hours to apply for asylum there or return to their home country. The vast majority return home on their own. The Guatemala ACA was halted in March 2020 due to COVID-19 but can be restarted at any time.
LAWG hosted a webinar with NISGUA and other partners on the Asylum Cooperative Agreements that you can view here and formed a part of a campaign to halt the ACAs. Read our policy memo on civil society concerns with the agreements here.
